Mindful & Compassionate Communications

Emily has decided to take this global slow down as an opportunity to take a 6 month sabbatical from teaching. Please subscribe to her newsletter (click here) for news on when she will be offering workshops again. With much care and compassion, Emily

Teacher: Emily Moody

In this workshop you will learn how to communicate your needs most effectively, how to integrate compassion for oneself and others in our most difficult relations and how to listen, validate and empathize with those we are closest with. This workshop is appropriate for individuals, couples or any family members or friends that wish to come together (come together and receive a $10 discount/ person on your workshop fee!). Participants will learn mindful listening and communication techniques, looking at how expectations and judgments often prevent us from being fully present and engaged in our relationships with others. We will also explore how the cultivation of compassion for oneself and others can help bring ease and harmony in our relationships. The techniques learned in this workshop can be applied to our primary love relationships, with family members, in our role as parents, caregivers, friendships or even in professional settings.

This course is suitable for individuals, friends, family members and/or couples.

Location: Equilibrium Yoga Studio, 4812 St. Laurent Blvd, suite 101 (corner Villeneuve), Montreal Quebec H2T 1R5

Course Fee:
$50 ($40 for students or unemployed). If coming with a friend or family member, you can both register at the $40 rate (please just ignore the automatic note for a student ID that arises).

Language: In English with a bilingual discussion format.

Learn how to integrate mindfulness into your daily life and improve your relationships through:

  • 4 Steps to Mindful Communications based on Non-Violent Communications approach
  • Compassionate Listening (Sender/Receiver exercise)
  • Mindfulness techniques to lessen emotional reactivity and increase acceptance
  • How to reduce judgments of ourselves and others in our relationships
  • Cultivation of compassion, loving kindness and forgiveness with ourselves and others

What you can expect: You will be welcomed into an open and warm environment, where participants are invited to sit on a cushion on the floor or chairs. We will explore Mindful and Compassionate Communications using several different teaching modalities, starting with an interactive lecture, where participants are free to engage at the level they feel most comfortable in either English or French. Participants will then be guided through several exercises that will allow them to have a direct experience with the material discussed, with a particular focus on gaining experience in the compassionate communication techniques presented. Those coming with a partner or friend can practice with each other, others will practice with those in attendance. There will be a tea break half way through the program, and you are welcome to lie down or stretch at any point to take care of your own comfort needs.

Workshop Feedback

The Mindfulness and Your Relationships course gave a good overview of mindfulness practice and then focused on how we can incorporate mindfulness into our relationships. I found the exercises we practiced throughout the workshop were really concrete; Emily offered us practical tools which can be used to improve any kind of relationship. I found it helpful to review how important it is to be mindful in moments of conflict with our partners or with any other person in our life.
